Announcement of our 2026 scholarship

We congratulate Julian Reid as the 2026 recipient of the Welland Port Colborne Concert Association Scholarship awarded to a graduating student at Centennial Secondary School, who has contributed to the performing arts at the school and who is continuing these interests.

From the moment he entered the music program at Centennial, it was clear that music was not just an extracurricular interest for Julian, but a calling. Consistently, Julian would arrive early to rehearsals, stay late after school to practice, and take on challenges to expand his skills. What makes Julian exceptional is not only his talent as a multi-instrumentalist, but his character as well. He is kind, patient, and generous with his time in offering help to his peers. Younger musicians naturally gravitate toward him, and he always meets them with encouragement and guidance.

What’s more, he elevates every group he is part of. In music ensembles, classroom critiques, as part of student council and a member of the Indigenous Student Trust, Julian shows care for others, empathy and leadership. He enthusiastically builds up those around him, including others and inspiring a sense of belonging.

As he prepares to enter teacher education at Brock University, with a plan to become a Music Teacher, he possesses the discipline and the heart to thrive in a concurrent education program and to inspire a younger generation.
